Lorenzo Ramirez ’26 is currently a Junior at Monmouth College who joined the chapter in Spring 2024. Even in the relatively short time that he’s been an active brother, Lorenzo has made quite a mark on our local SigEp chapter and has become a beacon of what it means to be a balanced man in a lot of brothers minds. Lorenzo is a Music Education major, and is active in areas on campus like being a member of the Football team, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Chorale, Residence Life and more. Lorenzo manages to balance all of these extracurriculars with his academics to maintain a very respectable GPA, all while still having a good work life balance.
With that context into who Lorenzo is, I think it’s time we get into the questions I had for him about why he chose to join SigEp and why he stands by that decision.
Did you consider Fraternity Life before you came to Monmouth?
“I thought of the idea of joining a frat but when I came to Monmouth I wanted a frat to come to me to show me that this place really wants me instead of me going to them.”
Why did you decide to join SigEp?
“I joined SigEp because I saw a sense of brotherhood and family during my first event. I felt at home with other people just like me. People who want to be better in their crafts and people that enjoy similar things to me. Finding brotherhood and family where I can have always been important to me. I found it in SigEp and not only do the people in SigEp help me be a better person, they make me feel wanted and feel like I belong here within the Fraternity. A feeling that’s very hard to find in today’s times.”
When did you first feel connected to SigEp?
“In a way I’ve always felt connected with SigEp, I knew individuals prior to becoming a brother but I truly felt connected during my first recruitment event. I felt like I was home playing nerf guns with my siblings again and I just felt safe and at home again. After that I never really left the house because I wanted to be around my new brothers and build even more connections with them.”
How do you feel that being a part of SigEp has improved your Life?
“SigEp has help me out a lot with academics and even social life. I feel more confident to talk to people and actually reach out to people for help and not feel guilty about it. SigEp has helped me with my education because I’m surrounded by smart people. People who are way smarter than me when it comes to academics and with me being competitive that helps me push myself to be better and thrive to be better everyday.”
What do you think it means to ‘Raise Your Bar’?
“It means you learn and get better everyday. I always say you can learn from anywhere or anyone. For me Raise Your Bar is more than just a saying it’s a way of life; to be improving yourself everyday, to learn something everyday, to be better than the person you were yesterday. To always improve and see what lessons you can learn out of anything that life brings you.”
Why would you recommend SigEp?
“I would recommend SigEp because it has opened many doors for me not only with my current brothers but even with alumni and professors. It has helped me in many different ways I never knew I could be helped in. SigEp will now and forever be a part of me, as well as currently being a brotherhood and family while being the best at what we do.”
